Three Wolves One Moon T-Shirt
I’ve been consumed by the “Three Wolves One Moon” phenomenon in the Amazon clothing store. In short: A crappy T-shirt made by a NH based company depicting three wolves howling at a moon has suddenly become “cool” due to a string of fantastical & humorous reviews about the magical effects that the T-shirt has on its wearer. The T-shirt has now (at time of writing) been reviewed 846 times, has a Twitter hashtag and is resulting in huge sales for the Keene, NH based clothing company that makes it. Most of the reviews point to the extraordinary effects that this T-shirt has on females :) The first reviewer noted that “I walked from my trailer to Wal-mart with the shirt on and was immediately approached by women. The women knew from the wolves on my shirt that I, like a wolf, am a mysterious loner who knows how to ‘howl at the moon’ from time to time.”
It’s a great example of virality on the web. An “uncool” T-shirt suddenly becomes a hot property, NOT because of the product itself but because of the community’s reaction to it on the web. I feel that this is another fasinating “Skittles” New Media moment…
